TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia failed to qualify its representatives to the 2025 India Open badminton tournament. In the semifinal match in New Delhi, India, Saturday, January 18, Jonatan Christie and Gregoria Marsika Tunjung both lost.
Jonatan Christie lost to Danish player Viktor Axelsen. He had given fierce resistance, but after going through the rubber game he lost 21-17, 14-21, 15-21.
The first game began with Axelsen appearing quite dominant. After the first game interval was won by Axelsen 11-7, Jonatan, who came down as the second seed in this tournament, slowly began to give a fierce fight until he equalized the score 13-13 and 17-17.

The fight for a place in the top match was even tighter. Both players took turns to outdo each other, especially in the early half of the final game.
When the interval of the third game was taken by the former world number one men's singles, Jonatan seemed to be playing less calmly. Axelsen was far ahead 17-11 over Jonatan.
Although he had slowly caught up at critical points, that effort was still not enough to stem Axelsen's attacks who eventually won the third game with a score of 21-15 in 1 hour 11 minutes.
With this victory, Axelsen will meet Hong Kong representative Lee Cheuk Yiu in the final round of the 2025 India Open.
Gregoria Mariska Also Loses
Gregoria Mariska suffered a defeat from the first seed from South Korea An Se Young. Gregoria, who came down as the fourth seed, was defeated 19-21, 16-21.
At the beginning of the first game, Gregoria looked quite dominant and controlled the game well. She even managed to lead quite far from An with a score of 6-2, before being caught up and equalized by her opponent with a score of 7-7.
The fight for points was fierce again, especially after the first game interval. Having fallen behind 10-13, Gregoria immediately tried to equalize the score by winning three points in a row.
Even at critical points, the 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medalist did not lose focus and further narrowed the score to 19-20. However, An did not waste her first matchpoint and immediately won the first game with a narrow score of 21-19.
The fight for points in the second game was fierce and intense again. Although this time Gregoria was not able to control the game from the start of the game, she was slowly able to equalize the score 9-9 over the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist.
The world's fifth-ranked women's singles player was in the ascendancy when she led narrowly 12-10, but it was still not enough to widen the score margin.
Shortly after the scoreboard showed 14-14, An did not give Gregoria a chance to develop her game. The world's number one women's singles player became more solid, both in defense and attack, so that she won four consecutive points and led 18-14 over Gregoria.
Gregoria's resistance in the final seconds still could not prevent An from wrapping up another victory in their 11th meeting this time.
With this victory, An will meet Thailand's representative Pornpawee Chocuwong in the final match of the 2025 India Open, Sunday.
