TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost airline Indonesia AirAsia has prepared 180 extra flights in anticipation for the year-end holiday traffic, focusing on top domestic routes including Jakarta-Bali, Jakarta-Silangit, and Banjarmasin-Bali.
CEO of Indonesia AirAsia Veranita Yosephine Sinaga said on Friday that public interest is high during this year’s Christmas and New Year holiday season, projecting the number of passengers to reach 550,000 people.
The figure accounts for a 6 percent surge from the previous year, where the airline served 391,000 passengers from December 19, 2023, to January 3, 2024. At the time, Indonesia AirAsia operated more than 2,500 flights, covering both domestic and international routes.
Favorite Routes
The Indonesia AirAsia boss revealed that Jakarta-Denpasar, as the largest domestic aviation hub, remains favorite among passengers, followed by Jakarta-Silangit Lake Toba and Banjarmasin-Denpasar.
Meanwhile, the top international flight routes this year are Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur, Bali-Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta-Singapore, and Bali-Perth.
Veranita added that the airline operates 25 aircraft for this year’s Christmas and New Year holiday season.
She ensured that the entire aircraft fleet was airworthy since they had passed multiple evaluation procedures
Ramp Check
To ensure the safety and security of the holiday flights, Indonesia AirAsia conducted ramp checks.
“Indonesia AirAsia always prioritizes the safety and comfort of passengers on every flight. We conduct ramp checks regularly as part of our operational procedures outside of the holiday season,” she said, adding that the company pays extra attention to ensure everything runs smoothly.
This ramp check activity includes a thorough inspection of the interior and exterior of the aircraft, including the cabin area, cockpit, emergency exits, fan blades, and aircraft wheels (landing gear and nosewheel).
Additionally, Veranita directly reviews the check-in counter and boarding lounge services to ensure a smooth operation and passenger’s comfort during the trip.
