TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia and Mongolia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their bilateral partnership at a political consultation meeting at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday, February 26.

As reported by Antara, Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir (Tata) and Mongolian Deputy Foreign Minister Amartuvshin Gombosuren discussed positive trends in their countries' bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation in various fields.

“There is vast potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Mongolia. Increasing business engagement is key, including through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between chambers of commerce to expand trade, investment, and business partnerships,” said Deputy Minister Tata in a written statement from the Foreign Ministry on Friday.

Both sides highlighted the possibility of collaborating in strategic sectors such as economics, defense, agriculture, education, health, people-to-people relations, tourism, and science and technology. In the agricultural sector, Indonesia is considered capable of improving Mongolia's human resources through sustainable agricultural development training.

In the field of education, cooperation is being strengthened through various Indonesian scholarship programs for Mongolian students. These programs include the Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS) and the Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (BSBI), as well as capacity-building training for Mongolian diplomats and the Developing Countries Partnership (KNB) program.

Indonesia and Mongolia agreed to explore establishing a policy planning dialogue to strengthen strategic coordination and exchange views on the dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region and other global issues.

"We hope that the partnership between Indonesia and Mongolia will continue to grow within a framework of closer, comprehensive cooperation that is responsive to global challenges and capable of providing tangible benefits to both countries' citizens," said Deputy Minister Tata.

The meeting coincided with the 70th anniversary of the two countries' bilateral relations and was a follow-up to the MoU on political consultations signed in May 2025.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recorded that the total value of trade between Indonesia and Mongolia in 2025 will reach US$56 million, indicating a positive trend.

Indonesia is home to the only Mongolian Cultural Center in Southeast Asia. It is located in Tanjung Lesung in the Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
