TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian U-23 national team coach Gerald Vanenburg has announced a 23-player squad for the 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers, which will be held at Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo, East Java, from September 3 to 9.
The official list was released through the national team’s Instagram account on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
Most of the players selected previously represented Garuda Muda in the 2025 AFF U-23 Championship in Jakarta last July, where Indonesia finished as runner-up after losing to Vietnam in the final.
Bali United and PSM Makassar are the biggest contributors to the squad, with three players each. Bali United is represented by Jens Raven, Kadek Arel, and Rahmat Arjuna, while PSM has Muhammad Ardiansyah, Ananda Raehan, and Ricky Pratama.
Naturalized Players Strengthen the Squad
Three naturalized players are included: Jens Raven, Rafael Struick, and Dion Markx. For Markx, who plays for NEC Nijmegen U-21, this marks his first U-23 call-up after previously appearing twice for the U-20 team in friendlies.
Struick, meanwhile, returns to Garuda Muda more than a year after his last appearance at the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup in Qatar.
Training Camp Underway
The head of the National Team Body (BTN), Sumardji, confirmed that the team began its training camp in Surabaya on Monday to prepare for the qualifiers. Indonesia, as host, has been placed in Group J alongside Laos, Macau, and South Korea.
Vanenburg’s men will kick off their campaign against Laos on September 3, face Macau on September 6, and close out the group stage against South Korea on September 9. From this round, the 11 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the final tournament in Saudi Arabia, scheduled for January next year.
