TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono received a visit from the Republic of Chile Ambassador, Mario Ignacio Artaza, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
The two figures agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially in the economic and trade sectors. Indonesia and Chile are celebrating the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year.
Sugiono and Artaza emphasized the urgency of finalizing negotiations for the Indonesia-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), particularly in investment. They also discussed the importance of strengthening the synergies between the economic actors of the two countries.
In addition to the economic field, the two figures committed to strengthening cooperation in other areas, such as sister city cooperation, naval training cooperation, and increasing interactions between the two countries' communities.
During the meeting, Sugiono also advocated cooperation between Indonesia and Chile in the downstreaming of critical minerals. This step is in line with the vision of President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita regarding downstreaming to increase domestic added value.
In this regard, Artaza welcomed the offer for such cooperation. He emphasized that Indonesia is an important partner for Chile in Asia.
At the same time, Artaza supports Indonesia's accession process to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
He also hoped for a more strategic collaboration between Indonesia and Chile in the future.
