TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that the import of oil and gas from the United States would continue to undergo a bidding process. This oil and gas import is part of a reciprocal tariff agreement and will be executed by PT Pertamina. "There will definitely be a bidding process for the American vendors for the direct import," Airlangga told reporters at The Westin, Jakarta, on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

He also stated that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) related to the import had been prepared. Later, Airlangga said, the MoU would be a derivative of the finalized reciprocal tariff agreement. The government targets to finalize the tariff agreement with the U.S. by the end of the year.

According to Airlangga, the import of oil and gas from the U.S. can only be realized after the agreement is signed. He stated that the scheme for oil and gas import from the U.S. is open to the private sector. In the agreement with the U.S., Indonesia has committed to purchasing U.S. energy products worth $15 billion. In return, Indonesia will receive a 19 percent tariff.

Previously, PT Pertamina stated that it could not yet import crude oil from America because it is still awaiting official regulations from the government. "Still waiting for regulations. Well, we have to be prepared," said Pertamina CEO Simon Aloysius Mantiri after a meeting with the House of Commission VI (DPR), Jakarta, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Simon said the company could not yet determine when the import would be carried out. He said that while waiting for the regulations to be issued, Pertamina is only preparing the technical steps, such as ensuring the refinery is ready to accommodate the oil.
