TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The men's doubles Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Ardianto lost to Man Wei Chong / Tee Kai Wun from Malaysia in the final of the 2025 Indonesia Masters which took place at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, January 26, 2025. This defeat left the host without a title in this BWF Super 500 championship.
Fajar / Rian could only match Wei / Kai's game at the start of the match. After the double score of 7-7, the Malaysian pair dominated the game so that they were ahead 11-8 in the game interval, before finally winning the first game with a difference of 10 points, 21-11.
In the second game, Fajar / Rian were able to provide tough resistance. There was a chase for points. Having fallen behind 15-18, they were able to equalize the score to 18-18. However, Wei / Kai were able to regain control of the game and finally won this game with 21-19 to end the match in the 38th minute.
This was Wei/Kai's first win over Fajar/Rian, and also reduced their meeting record to 1-4, after losing four previous matches.
For Fajar/Rian, this defeat meant they failed to win their second title at the Indonesia Masters after winning the title in 2022, when they defeated representatives from South Korea in the final.
Wei/Kai became the first Malaysian men's doubles pair to win the Indonesia Masters tournament, since it was held in 2010. They became the third pair outside the host pair to win this event after Kim Gi-jung/Kim Sa-rang from South Korea in 2012 and Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi from Japan in 2021.
Fajar/Rian's failure to win the title left the host team without a title at the 2025 Indonesia Masters. Previously, men's singles pair Jonatan Christie also lost against Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
