TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is preparing incentives for food distribution to reduce price disparities in remote areas. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono stated that the high price of food in remote areas is not due to price manipulation, but rather the high cost of logistics.
"It's not because someone is raising the prices, but the transportation and distribution costs are indeed high," said Sudaryono when met at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food in Jakarta on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Sudaryono stated that the country needs to provide incentives to ensure equal food prices in remote areas and other regions. He said this policy aims to create food justice, especially for people in areas with limited logistical access.
He emphasized that this policy is urgent as it directly relates to peope's basic needs. "This is about people's livelihoods," he said. However, he has not yet explained in detail the mechanism for providing these incentives.
Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan stated that price control and food supply management will continue under President Prabowo Subianto's direction, particularly to ensure price and supply stability ahead of Ramadan.
Zulkifli mentioned that price monitoring will be conducted in various regions, including disaster-affected areas. According to him, the situation in Aceh is observed to be stable despite facing disruptions due to disasters.
"I just returned from Aceh two days ago, the supply is safe in Aceh. Even in Tamiang, I entered the market and it was already bustling. So the food is complete," he said.
