TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Workers Protection is preparing evacuation scenarios for Indonesian migrant workers in the Middle East region following the escalation of conflict between US, Israel, and Iran.
Migrant Workers Protection Minister Mukhtarudin said the simulation of evacuation and suspension of placement in high-risk areas are parts of the preventive measures against further escalations.
"We have prepared various scenarios, including evacuation and restricted placements. All steps are based on factual information, diplomatic coordination, and precautionary principles," Mukhtarudin said in a written statement on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Since the escalation of the conflict at the end of February, Mukhtarudin claimed that the government has activated a crisis management mechanism.
The ministry has formed a geopolitical crisis monitoring team to update real-time data on thousands of Indonesian migrant workers in the affected countries, especially in areas that have been impacted by attacks, such as Qatar and the surrounding region of military installations.
Mukhtaruddin explained that his ministry is working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian envoys in Tehran, Riyadh, Doha, and Abu Dhabi to synchronize data and prepare contingency plans.
He mentioned that the mapping of high-risk zones is continuously updated to support quick and measured decision-making.
As a mitigating measure, Mukhtaruddin has urged Indonesian migrant workers to stay away from conflict areas, military bases, and potentially vulnerable locations, and to move to safer places if necessary. The public is also advised to remain calm, follow the official instructions from the Indonesian Representatives, and immediately report emergency conditions through official channels.
"The government ensures that every report will be followed up through support and advocacy mechanisms to guarantee the protection of the rights of Indonesian migrant workers amid global geopolitical dynamics," Mukhtarudin said.
