TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rolliansyah Soemirat or Roy, reiterated Indonesia's firm rejection of any plan to forcibly relocate citizens of Palestine from the Gaza Strip, as previously proposed by United States President Donald Trump and supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"Indonesia firmly rejects any effort to specifically relocate Palestinian residents or any activity to alter the demographic composition of the Palestinian territory," Roy said during a press conference at the ministry's office in Central Jakarta on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Roy affirmed that Indonesia will always support Palestinian independence and sovereignty and encourage a two-state solution.

He also emphasized Indonesia's commitment to working with the international community to uphold international law and ensure respect for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and their right to return to their homeland.

Furthermore, Roy affirmed that Indonesia will continue to work with all components of the international community to ensure respect for international law. He also supports the fulfillment of the rights of the Palestinian people to determine their own choices and maintain their basic rights to return to their homeland.

Furthermore, Roy said Indonesia condemned ongoing Israeli military operations against Palestinians. "We are confident that these efforts are contradictory to the spirit of creating a more conducive situation in the region," he stated.

According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated support for efforts to permanently resettle Palestinians from Gaza to other locations, following months of conflict between Hamas and Israel. He also mentioned discussions with Jordan, Egypt, and other regional countries, claiming they would eventually support the idea. However, both Jordan and Egypt have publicly rejected such proposals.
