TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia recorded a goods trade surplus of US$41.05 billion from January to December 2025, marking an increase from the US$31.04 billion surplus posted in the same period a year earlier.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono said the surplus rose by US$9.72 billion year on year.

“With this result, Indonesia has maintained a trade surplus for 68 consecutive months,” Ateng said during a press conference at the BPS office on Tuesday, February 2, 2026.

Indonesia’s total exports in 2025 reached US$282.91 billion, up 6.15 percent compared with 2024. Imports also increased, totaling US$241.86 billion, or 2.83 percent higher than the previous year.

The country has recorded a continuous trade surplus since May 2020. In December 2025 alone, the trade balance posted a surplus of US$2.51 billion, slightly lower than the US$2.66 billion surplus recorded in November.

BPS noted that the surplus was largely driven by non-oil and gas commodities, particularly fats and vegetable oils. Meanwhile, the oil and gas trade balance remained in deficit, with crude oil as the largest contributing factor.

By trading partner, the United States was the largest contributor to Indonesia’s surplus, totaling US$18.11 billion, followed by India with US$13.49 billion and the Philippines with US$8.42 billion.

On the deficit side, China recorded the largest trade gap with Indonesia at US$20.50 billion. This was followed by Australia with a deficit of US$5.65 billion, while Indonesia also posted a US$5.47 billion trade deficit with Singapore.
