TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Reza, mentioned that he will soon invite representatives from the multinational technology company Apple to Indonesia. Apple itself, said Faisol, has responded to the invitation sent by the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).
"Basically, yes, they will come soon. They have responded it in a serious manner," said Faisol when met in South Jakarta, Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Faisol continued, the Ministry of Industry itself is still deeply discussing the investment of Apple in Indonesia. This includes discussions on what form of investment will be made and how it will be allocated.
"We are also discussing the allocation, what kind of investment," said the politician from the National Awakening Party or PKB.
However, regarding certain requirements that will be given to Apple later, according to Faisol, have not been determined yet. He mentioned that the investment requirements are still in the discussion stage by the Ministry of Industry.
"Not yet determined, still in discussion," he said.
It was previously known that Apple had submitted an investment proposal of US$100 million or around Rp1.58 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,800) over two years. According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Industry, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, the proposal was accepted by the Ministry of Industry on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The proposal was also discussed in an internal meeting held on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
However, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita decided to reject the investment proposal from Apple. This decision was made in a leadership meeting of the Ministry of Industry on Monday, November 25, 2024.
The Golkar Party politician assessed that Apple's proposal did not meet the prerequisite aspects of justice. He explained that based on a comparison of Apple's investments in other countries, Apple has not yet invested in the form of production facilities or factories in Indonesia.
For information, the entity founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs plans to build several facilities in Indonesia, such as a product development center and a professional developer academy. There are also plans to produce mesh components or Airpods Max cushions in July 2025, as part of Apple's global product chain.
