TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Indonesia's Universitas Airlangga (Unair) announced 770 nominees or candidates for the Golden Ticket, a special admission route for high school students eligible without an entrance exam. They are almost certain to be accepted through the National Selection Based on Performance (SNBP) pathway, unless Unair receives objections from the public regarding the announced names.

The announcement was made in a hybrid format from the Unair Rectorate Hall on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. A total of 770 candidates attended both offline and online.

Unair Rector, Prof Mohammad Nasih, explained that these Golden Ticket candidates are only at the nomination stage within SNBP. Their status could change, depending on academic conditions and ongoing ranking. "This means that those in this category must continue to maintain their performance and prepare themselves as best as possible," Nasih said.

Nasih explained that this year, the Golden Ticket applicants reached 3,155 students from across Indonesia. 770 students were then declared eligible as nominees based on the distribution into four quadrants.

In the first quadrant, there are 250 students. They were selected due to outstanding academic achievements and coming from schools with high indexes. Meanwhile, the second quadrant consists of 61 students. They were chosen for their good academic achievements, even though their schools do not have high indexes.

As for the fourth quadrant, there are 459 students. They have less prominent academic achievements, but come from prestigious schools. Therefore, they still have a chance of being accepted. As a result, the total of students in the first, second, and fourth quadrants reached 770.

"Meanwhile, students who fall into the third quadrant cannot enter the Golden Ticket because they do not have prominent academic achievements and come from schools with low indexes," Nasih said.

Nasih stated that the official SNBP announcement will be made on Friday, March 14, 2025. The announcement of the 770 candidates was made as a form of transparency. "So there won't be a sudden acceptance story. There are indeed those who have achievements and good schools, and so on," Nasih explained.

Furthermore, the list of these 770 students' names will be proposed into the SNBP system towards the closing process. The public can already see the candidates who are likely to be accepted in this selection. Nasih expressed that their chances of being accepted are 95 percent.

"The rest we return to the public. For example, if the public protests that a candidate who apparently lacks academic achievements is accepted, it might still change," stated the Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Unair.

Nasih mentioned that last year, Unair only announced a hundred students who passed the Golden Ticket. However, this year Unair decided to transparently announce all of them first. Nasih claimed that Unair is the only campus in Indonesia with such a transparent system. "We maintain this just to avoid future problems," he said.

For those who were not fortunate in the Golden Ticket track, Unair still provides various opportunities through other routes such as SNBT and independent selection.
