TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, signed a Hajj agreement with the government of Saudi Arabia, ensuring that Indonesia will send 221,000 pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj season.
Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, said the departure and return of the Hajj pilgrims will be sorted into two airports in Saudi Arabia.
“A total of 110,500 pilgrims will arrive through Amir Mohammad Bin Abdul Aziz Airport in Medina and return through King Abdul Aziz Airport in Jeddah,” the minister said in his official statement on Sunday night, January 12, 2025.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Hajj pilgrims will arrive via King Abdul Aziz Airport in Jeddah and return to Indonesia from Amir Mohammad Bin Abdul Aziz Airport in Medina.
The Minister of Religious Affairs hopes to finalize the preparations for the 2025 Hajj soon after signing the agreement with the Saudi government.
Additionally, Indonesia currently has 2,210 Hajj officers on standby, but the government said it will continue to lobby Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq F Al Rabiah to allow Indonesia to prepare additional officers for maximum services for the pilgrimage.
The Minister of Religious Affairs also intends to attend a Hajj exhibition in Saudi Arabia, where his party will look for an appropriate service provider for the 2025 Hajj season.
Several other parties are set to oversee the preparation and operation of this year’s Hajj, including the Hajj Management Agency (BP Haji), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the Attorney General's Office, which will monitor the Hajj implementation.
