TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, assessed that the absence of terrorist actions in Indonesia for the past two years does not guarantee the end of terrorism. He conveyed this during the launch of the I-KHub BNPT Counter Terrorism and Violent Extremism Outlook 2024 document event organized by the National Counter Terrorism Agency at the National Library, Jakarta on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
He warned everyone to remain vigilant against terrorism in the country. Because, he said, terrorism in the present era is increasingly metamorphosing by using various cyberspaces.
"Terrorism is now more sophisticated, they use various cyber spaces to spread their ideology globally," the former head of the National Intelligence Agency or BIN said in a written statement on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
He highlighted Indonesia's ranking in the Global Terrorism Index, which he said had improved. Terrorism in Indonesia, he said, is now categorized as low impact, compared to the previous medium impact.
The man known as BG appreciated this achievement, thanks to the joint efforts of stakeholders from prevention aspects to law enforcement.
The minister urged the state not to be complacent with the absence of terrorist acts in the last two years. According to BG, this situation does not necessarily mean that terrorists have completely stopped their activities.
"Our future task is to maintain this condition so that the state can provide a sense of security to the people," he said.
