Indonesia, Uzbekistan Agree to Bolster Bilateral Cooperation

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and his Uzbekistan counterpart, Bakhtiyor Saidov, co-chaired the 2nd Joint Commission on Bilateral Consultation (JCBC) at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

Sugiono and Saidov agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in various sectors, as well as common interests on global and regional issues. They will release a joint statement on Wednesday, February 12.

During the meeting, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to promote cooperation and investment in various strategic sectors, including infrastructure, mining, and tourism.

Sugiono and Saidov also pushed for the creation of a bilateral trade agreement between the two nations.

"Uzbekistan in Central Asia and Indonesia in Southeast Asia must play a role as 'locomotives of growth' in driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth," said Sugiono, as quoted from the Foreign Ministry’s official website.

Indonesia and Uzbekistan also agreed to enhance cooperation in the areas of education, culture, sports, as well as inter-parliamentary ties, to enhance people-to-people relations.

As a concrete step to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the two countries agreed on the 2025-2026 Action Plan, which will serve as a guide for implementing cooperation initiatives across various fields.

In addition, Sugiono and Saidov also signed the Diplomatic and Service Passport Visa-Free Agreement (PBVDD) to facilitate greater interaction between officials and representatives of both countries.

According to MoFA records, diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Uzbekistan have been ongoing for 32 years. The first JCBC was held in 2009 in Jakarta. This second meeting marks the two countries' commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation going forward.
