TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Works will soon inaugurate a dam worth Rp1.7 trillion in Pidie Regency, Aceh Province. The construction of Rukoh Dam was overseen by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk.
Rukoh Dam is said to have a storage capacity of 128 million cubic meters. The dam is projected to irrigate 11,950 hectares of irrigated land.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said that dam infrastructure is part of the efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency. Dams, said Dody, can play a crucial role in agriculture.
“We can see, for example, from the dam, [the water] then enter primary, secondary, and tertiary irrigation, before flowing directly into the rice fields,” Dody said in a written statement on Monday, January 13, 2025.
Waskita Karya Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita claimed that the Rukoh Dam is projected to boost agricultural productivity in the Pidie region. “Rukoh Dam is expected to provide a multiplier effect for the community. Not only for irrigation, but it can also reduce flood risk by 89.62 percent,” said Ermy.
The dam project, said Ermy, can provide raw water of 0.90 cubic meters per second. “The impounding process for the Rukoh Dam has been underway since December. Hopefully, the people of Aceh, especially those in Pidie Regency, can reap the benefits of this dam soon.”
Waskita Karya worked on the second part of the Rukoh Dam construction through the Waskita-Adhi-Andesmont Joint Operation (KSO). The total contract value of the project is Rp1.24 trillion.
