Indonesian Govt to Penalize Registered Organizations Involved in Thuggery

6 hours ago 12

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian stated that his ministry will join the Anti-thuggery Task Force to take administrative measures against community organizations registered under his ministry.

Tito Karnavian said that this task force is formed and led by the Politics and Security Ministry to enforce existing regulations on community organizations. The Law Ministry will deal with community organizations registered as legal entities. Meanwhile, the police will handle community organizations involved in criminal activities.

"If a community organization is not a legal entity but is registered with the Home Affairs Ministry, then the Home Affairs Ministry will take administrative sanctions against it if it commits violations," Tito said at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Tito mentioned that one of the sanctions against community organizations for violations is to issue a statement to deregister with the Home Affairs Ministry.

"What are the risks for community organizations that are declared not registered? They will not receive government service facilities, for example, they will not receive grants," Tito said.

Yesterday, the Coordinating Ministry for Politics and Security held a Coordination Meeting across Ministries and Institutions at the Nakula Meeting Room, Kemenko Polkam Office, Jakarta.

During the meeting, Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Budi Gunawan emphasized that the government will not hesitate to take firm action against all forms of thuggery and activities of community organizations that disturb the public and potentially disrupt investments and public order.

"The state will not remain silent against actions that threaten national stability and social order," Budi said, quoted from his official statement on May 6, 2025.

Budi stated that the government will form a Special Task Force to Tackle Thuggery and Community Organizations. The government will also guide problematic community organizations that disrupt public peace and hinder investment.

"This task force will involve the TNI (Indonesian military), the National Police, and all related agencies in a unified and responsive command," the Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security said.
