TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian police are searching for two members of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) who assaulted two security guards (Satpam) at SMA Negeri 9 in Tangerang Regency. The attack left one victim, Karyono, with a serious head injury from a sharp weapon and the other, Sunarto, with facial wounds and a bruised nose from being struck.
"We have identified the suspects, and a manhunt is underway," Tangerang City Police Chief Commissioner Baktiar Joko Mujiono told Tempo on Tuesday, March 18.
The motive behind the assault on the two security guards remains unclear.
The violent incident occurred on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the school located in Perum Taman Argo Subur, Pasanggrahan Village, Soelar District, Tangerang Regency. According to Acting Cisoka Police Station Chief Adjutant Commissioner Eldi, the two suspects approached the school’s administrative office that day.
"The alleged perpetrators inquired about a letter they had previously sent and were directed by a witness to the school’s public relations staff," Eldi said.
After meeting with the school’s PR staff, the suspects—believed to be members of an unnamed NGO—left the premises. However, at the front gate, they got into a verbal altercation with the two security guards on duty. The suspects then attacked, striking the victims, with one using a knife to stab and beat the guards.
"The attack left Karyono with a stab wound to the back of his head and Sunarto with a bruised nose," Eldi explained.
The suspects fled the scene, while the victims were taken to Balaraja Regional General Hospital (RSUD) for medical treatment.
