Iranian Foreign Minister Warns United States Over Complicity in Possible Israeli Attack

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned that Iran will hold the United States “accountable” for any possible causality if Israel proceeds with its plan to attack the country.

“Anybody with knowledge or understanding of 'how and when Israel was going to attack Iran', and/or providing the means and backing for such folly, should logically be held accountable for any possible causality,” Araghchi posted on X on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Araghchi did not mention Washington in his post, but a link to an article by Reuters, where U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed that he’s aware of the Israeli plan, was provided.

On Saturday, CNN reported that the U.S. has launched an investigation after highly classified intelligence reports on Israel’s preparations for possible strikes on Iran were leaked online.

Two of the documents were posted on Telegram on Friday, with one reporting that the Israeli military “continued key munitions preparations and covert UAV activity on October 16, almost certainly for a strike on Iran.” The document was reportedly prepared by the Pentagon’s National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

The second file contained a detailed account of a “large-force employment exercise” run by the Israeli Air Force on October 15 and 16.

Tensions have been high since Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched a missile strike against Israel on October 1, responding to the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and Iranian Brig. Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Iran has made a serious misstep and would face repercussions for the attack.

Meanwhile, at the end of his visit to Berlin on Friday, Biden confirmed that he had an understanding of how and when Israel was going to retaliate against missile attacks by Iran. However, he declined to elaborate on the details of the Israeli plan.
