TEMPO.CO, JakartaTwo Palestinians were killed and another injured on Thursday in Israeli attacks on the southern and central Gaza Strip, despite a ceasefire deal between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas since Sunday, January 19, 2025.

A medical source informed Anadolu that the fatalities occurred during an Israeli artillery strike on a residence in the Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood in western Rafah, located in southern Gaza. This neighborhood is designated as a "safe" area under the ceasefire agreement, allowing Palestinians to return to their homes.

Another medical source reported that a wounded Palestinian was transported to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, after being shot by Israeli forces stationed in the eastern region of the Al-Bureij refugee camp.

The initial phase of the Gaza ceasefire came into effect on January 19, 2025, bringing a temporary halt to the Israeli offensive, which had tragically resulted in the deaths of more than 47,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, since its commencement on October 7, 2023.

The three-phase agreement includes a prisoner exchange and continued calm, and ultimately aims to establish a permanent ceasefire and facilitate the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

The Israeli onslaught has devastated Gaza, leaving its residents displaced, facing severe food shortages, and highly vulnerable to disease outbreaks.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning its ongoing war against the enclave.
