Israeli Strikes in Gaza Kill 86, Including Dozens Near U.S. Aid Centers

2 months ago 82

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli forces and drones have killed at least 86 Palestinians since dawn, including 56 near a U.S. aid distribution center, in the latest attack on residents seeking help in the Gaza Strip.

According to Al Jazeera, 27 aid seekers were shot dead by the Israeli military in Rafah on Tuesday, June 25, 2025. The overall death toll from Israel's war has risen to more than 56,000 killed and 131,848 injured since October 7, 2023.

These killings mark the latest in a wave of daily massacres near aid distribution points, which were established late last month by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) with backing from Israel and the United States.

The head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has referred to the site as a "death trap."

Medical sources reported that at least 25 people were killed in an incident on Salah al-Din Street, south of Wadi Gaza in central Gaza. More than 140 others were wounded, 62 of them critically.

Footage posted on Instagram and verified by Al Jazeera’s Sanad news agency showed bodies being taken to al-Awda Hospital in the nearby Nuseirat refugee camp. Similar scenes were reported from the Nasser Medical Complex further south in Khan Younis, following unverified reports that Israeli forces had targeted people waiting for aid on al-Tina Street.

Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reported that people approaching aid points in Gaza City were also killed. Reporting from the city in the north of the enclave, as well as Rafah in the south, he stated, “Casualties were brought to various health facilities, including al-Shifa Hospital [in Gaza City]. The emergency ward there turned into a bloodbath, and many died waiting for medical care.”

Witnesses said Israeli forces had opened fire as people approached aid trucks. "It was a massacre," said Ahmed Halawa, reporting that tanks and drones had fired "even as we were fleeing."

The Israeli military stated it was reviewing reports of casualties from gunfire by its forces after a group approached soldiers in an area near the militarized Netzarim Corridor. Israel has previously claimed that shootings near the GHF aid site were triggered by "suspect" approaches to soldiers. However, witnesses and humanitarian groups assert that many of the shootings occurred without warning.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told a news conference that the number of Palestinian deaths at the site illustrated "the horrors of what is going on in Gaza."

He added, "People are being killed just for trying to get food because of a militarised humanitarian distribution system that meets none of the prerequisites for a functioning, fair, independent and impartial humanitarian system."

"It is time for leaders on both sides to find the political courage to stop this massacre," he concluded.
