TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to build an underground line at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the line will connect the underground area of the HI Roundabout with several surrounding hotels, namely the Grand Hyatt Jakarta, Pullman Jakarta Indonesia, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, and Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta.
The underground line will also be directly integrated with the Jakarta MRT system. This means that people will no longer need to use pedestrian bridges to travel between locations. "So there will be no more overhead pedestrian bridges. Everything is connected," said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
Pramono confirmed that the project's construction will not involve the Regional Budget (APBD). All funding will come from fines collected through the Floor Area Ratio (KLB) and from collaborations with the private sector.
He targets the underground connectivity project to begin operations in 2027. "The target is completion next year," said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician.
In addition to serving as a connecting route, the underground area will also provide space for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). According to Pramono, the area is expected to develop into a hub of underground activity, similar to those found in several major cities around the world.
In addition to the HI Roundabout, the Jakarta Provincial Government will also develop the Dukuh Atas area and the Semanggi Interchange. To strengthen connectivity between modes of transportation and improve pedestrian comfort in the capital's center, pedestrian decks will be built in both areas. "There will be major changes in Semanggi and Dukuh Atas," he said.
