TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has banned the construction of padel courts in residential areas. The decision was made in response to complaints from residents about the noise from the sports arena disrupting their comfort. Moreover, there are hundreds of padel court buildings that do not have Building Approval (PBG) permits.
The Head of the Jakarta Provincial Government's Office of Spatial Planning and Land Affairs, Vera Revina Sari, stated that there are 185 padel court buildings without Building Approval (PBG) permits. "The data was collected from a total of 397 padel courts scattered throughout Jakarta as of February 23, 2026," she said, quoted from a written statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
PBG is a permit issued by the government to building owners to carry out construction, repairs, maintenance, or revitalization of a building in accordance with technical standards. PBG, which replaces Building Construction Permits (IMB), is mandatory to ensure safety and compliance with spatial planning.
Padel court operators must have PBG permits before the building can be used legally. Building operators without PBG permits cannot apply for a Certificate of Compliance as proof that the building is fit for use.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that the government will take enforcement action against padel courts lacking PBG permits. Enforcement against padel court operators who do not meet the requirements could include operational cessation, demolition, and revocation of business permits.
The Jakarta Provincial Government also prohibits the construction of padel courts on regional government assets, in green open spaces, and in the midst of residential areas. For padel courts located in residential areas but with permits, Pramono limits the operating hours to a maximum of 8:00 PM WIB (UTC+7).
