4 hours ago 11

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his support for forming the Asset Forfeiture Bill as a legal measure to crack down on corruption and save the state's wealth.

"I support the Asset Forfeiture Bill. It's not right for those who have committed corruption not to return the assets," said Prabowo in his speech on International May Day, in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

The Asset Forfeiture Bill, which has long been stagnant in the House of Representatives, has attracted attention as it provides a legal basis for seizing the proceeds of crime without waiting for a criminal verdict. Prabowo emphasized his stance for the state to take firm action against anyone who abuses public wealth.

"Agree? Agree how?" he exclaimed. "Shall we continue? Shall we continue the resistance against the corrupt?" said Prabowo.

Prabowo's speech drew cheers and support from the labor activists who had crowded the Monas area since early morning. Combating corruption and asset recovery has become one of their hopes for the new government.

Prabowo conveyed support for the Asset Forfeiture Bill, committed to expediting the discussion of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill, establishing a National Labor Welfare Council, and an Employment Termination Task Force.

The enactment or follow-up of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is one of the workers' demands. The President of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) and the President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, mentioned it as one of the six important issues raised and conveyed to the President.

In addition, Said stated that the demands also include protecting the rights of domestic workers through the enactment of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (PPRT). Next, eradicating corruption through the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

During the speech, Prabowo was accompanied by the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Prosperity Trade Unions (KSBSI), Elly Rosita, the Chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers' Unions (KSPSI), Jumhur Hidayat, and the President of Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI), Said Iqbal.
