TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police are now using 40 handheld electronic traffic law enforcement devices to crack down on traffic violators. The device, named the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) Handheld Presisi, is intended to enhance the effectiveness of ticketing in urban areas.

The ETLE Handheld Presisi is a portable device based on a digital camera capable of recording traffic violations in real time. "This device allows officers to record violations quickly, accurately, and in coordination with the National ETLE System," said Chief of the Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate, Grand Commissioner Ojo Ruslani, in a written statement on Friday, January 16, 2026.

The operation of the ETLE Handheld Presisi is expected to maximize digital-based traffic enforcement, especially in locations not covered by static ETLE cameras. "With this technology, officers can monitor various types of violations that have the potential to endanger road users' safety," said Ojo.

In addition to enhancing enforcement, the implementation of the ETLE Handheld Presisi is expected to eliminate transactional practices between officers and violators. All recorded violations will be processed systematically, ensuring the objectivity and professionalism of officers in the field.

Forty units of the ETLE Handheld Presisi were handed over by the Head of the Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, to the Traffic Director of the Jakarta Metro Police, Grand Commissioner Komarudin. The devices will be used by traffic unit heads in Jakarta and the surrounding areas.

The Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps emphasized that the use of the ETLE Handheld Presisi is not only oriented toward enforcement, but also serves to educate the public on orderly traffic. "With a transparent and technology-based system, it is hoped to encourage more disciplined and responsible driving behavior," said Agus.
