TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that he will coordinate with the Department of Education to ensure that the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) is not misused by its recipients. He made this statement in response to questions regarding the practice of pawning KJP cards ahead of Ramadan.

"I will immediately coordinate with the Department of Education to prevent it from being misused," said Pramono when met in Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Pramono believes that the KJP is a fundamental program for transforming the lives of the community, particularly those in the lowest economic groups. According to him, various welfare indicators in Jakarta show improvement. "Because KJP is a fundamental thing to be able to change the lives of the community, especially in the lowest strata," he said.

He claims that the improvement of several indicators released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) related to poverty and stunting is inseparable from the intervention of educational assistance programs. "It is proven by our BPS results; all our indicators related to poverty, stunting, and the like have improved," he said.

Pramono is convinced that the improvement is driven by several programs, including the KJP, the Superior Jakarta Student Card (KJMU), and the certificate amnesty. "I believe that it is because there is KJP, KJMU, certificate amnesty, and the like," he said.

One of the reasons for pawning the KJP is economic pressure, which has led some residents to take extreme measures. A story came from Sutrisna, a parent in the Tegal Alur area of Kalideres, West Jakarta, in 2020. He admitted to having to pawn his child's KJP to meet daily needs.

The father of four said that he had lost his job as a security guard three months prior, after the factory where he worked reduced its workforce. He and his wife then visited their usual shop that accepts KJP to borrow Rp500,000.

"[Due to] difficult circumstances, no salary. Then my wife and I went to our usual shopping place that accepts KJP, but wanted to borrow Rp500,000," he said as quoted from Antara.

Sutrisna had intended to pawn the vehicle registration certificate of his motorcycle. However, the shop owner refused to accept it as they knew it was Sutrisna's only valuable asset.
