TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s state-owned toll road operator, Jasa Marga, recorded that 955,923 vehicles left Greater Jakarta within five days, from March 21-26, 2025, a 1.5 percent uptake compared to last year’s Eid homecoming. The traffic volume also constituted a 13 percent surge compared to normal traffic conditions.
Jasa Marga corporate communication and community development group head, Lisye Octaviana, explained that the traffic flow out of Greater Jakarta was distributed to three main directions. "49.1 percent of the vehicles headed east (Trans-Java and Bandung), 29.7 percent headed west (Merak), and 21.1 percent headed south (Puncak)," she said in a written statement on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
In detail, 282,994 vehicles headed to Trans Java through the Main Cikampek Toll Gate, a significant surge of 72.1 percent compared to the normal conditions. Meanwhile, 186,768 vehicles were recorded bound for Bandung through the Main Kalihurip Toll Gate, or a decrease of 2.3 percent from normal traffic. Overall, the vehicles that moved east reached 469,762 units, an increase of 32.1 percent from normal traffic.
Heading west, 284,373 vehicles passed through the Cikupa Toll Gate towards Merak, slightly lower (0.8 percent) than normal traffic. Meanwhile, heading south, 201,788 vehicles headed to Puncak through the Ciawi Toll Gate, a decrease of 1.0 percent compared to normal conditions.
Lisye added that on D-5 of Eid al-Fitr, Jasa Marga recorded a significant increase in vehicles leaving Greater Jakarta, reaching 192,244 units or an increase of 42.8 percent compared to normal conditions. Traffic towards the east, especially through the Main Cikampek Toll Gate, reached 78,363 vehicles, a 191.1 percent increase from normal traffic. Meanwhile, traffic at the Main Kalihurip Toll Gate reached 33,300 vehicles, an increase of 18.0 percent from normal conditions.
"The peak of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus is predicted to occur on Friday, March 28, 2025. We urge road users to avoid traveling at rush dates and go-to hours such as in the morning and at night in order to reduce congestion," said Lisye.
