TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-controlled highways company, PT Jasa Marga, recorded 163,595 vehicles had returned to Greater Jakarta a day after Christmas, on December 26, 2024. The data is collected through vehicles passing through the four main toll gates (GT), namely GT Cikupa, GT Cikampek Utama, GT Ciawi, and GT Kalihurip Utama.
Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head of Jasa Marga Lisye Octaviana said there was a 24.4 percent increase compared to normal traffic of 131,552 vehicles.
“The majority of traffic returning to Greater Jakarta comes from the east, or the Trans Java and Bandung route, recorded at 74,614 vehicles, or covers 45.6 percent,” Lisye said in a written statement on Friday, December 27.
Coming from the south, there are 49,483 vehicles, while there are 39,498 vehicles coming from the west, or Merak.
Previously, Jasa Marga predicted that vehicles entering or returning to Jakarta during the Christmas and New Year holiday season would reach 3 million, from December 18, 2024, to January 4, 2025.
The peak return flow from Christmas is expected to occur on December 29, Lisye said. Jasa Marga urges people to adjust their return trip to avoid potential spikes in traffic.
“We also remind you that road users can take advantage of the 10 percent toll rate discount that applies on the Trans Java Toll Road on December 28, 2024,” Lisye said.
