TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The seventh President of Indonesia, Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, departed Jakarta to return to his hometown of Solo, Central Java on Sunday, October 20. This marked the end of his term as head of state, with President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka assuming leadership.
Jokowi was escorted by the Indonesian Air Force's Boeing aircraft from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta to Adi Soemarmo Airport in Solo.
Before his departure, he was seen off by his cabinet ministers and volunteers from the Pertiwi Indonesia organization. He also briefly spoke to the media, entrusting the dreams and aspirations of Indonesia's 280 million people to the elected president.
Jokowi acknowledged that the people's desires and aspirations are too numerous to be fully realized by the government. “Therefore, I fully entrust the dreams, hopes, and aspirations of the people to President Prabowo,” he said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta on Sunday.
He offered his prayers for Prabowo's health and strength as the latter will lead Indonesia for the next five years. He also urged the people to remain united and harmonious in building the nation.
The Indonesian Air Force Boeing aircraft carrying Jokowi and his wife Iriana took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base at 15:06 local time. The plane arrived in Solo around 16:00 local time.
The Solo City Government has prepared a welcoming event, including banners, billboards, video screens, and community involvement, to greet Jokowi upon his arrival. Sulistyarini, Head of Protocol, Communication, and Administration Division at the Solo Regional Secretariat, said that the welcoming ceremony will include a traditional "pasrah-tinampi" farewell ritual.
