TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – King Abdullah II of Jordan personally drove Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to the airport at the conclusion of his visit to the Kingdom of Jordan on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
The Jordanian monarch escorted Prabowo from Basman Palace, where they had held talks, to Marka Military Airport in a Mercedes-Maybach as the Indonesian leader departed the country.
Prior to heading to the airport, Prabowo and King Abdullah held a bilateral meeting at Basman Palace in Amman, Jordan’s capital. The discussions covered cooperation in education and religious affairs, as well as strategic regional issues.
“The meeting took place in a friendly and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the longstanding bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Jordan,” the Indonesia's Presidential Secretariat said in a press release.
Following the meeting, Prabowo departed for Marka Military Airport to continue his series of overseas visits, with Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates as his next destination.
King Abdullah II, who is known to have maintained a longstanding friendship with Prabowo, personally drove a black Mercedes-Maybach S-Class during the short trip to the airport. The same model is frequently used by Prabowo during official visits abroad.
Photos shared on the Presidential Secretariat’s social media accounts showed King Abdullah seated in the driver’s seat of the luxury sedan, while Prabowo sat beside him in the front passenger seat during the journey from Basman Palace.
Basman Palace is located about 5.1 kilometers, or roughly a seven-minute drive, from the Marka Airport complex. Upon arrival, King Abdullah once again personally saw President Prabowo off at the foot of the aircraft stairs. The two leaders embraced before parting.
Several members of the Jordanian royal family were also present to bid farewell, including Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and other royal officials. Indonesia’s Ambassador to Jordan, Ade Padmo Sarwono, and Indonesia’s Defense Attaché to Jordan, Navy Colonel (P) Dafris D. Syahruddin, also attended the send-off.
After takeoff from Marka Airport, four Jordanian Air Force F-16 fighter jets escorted Prabowo’s presidential aircraft until it exited Jordanian airspace.
From Amman, President Prabowo continued his working visit to Abu Dhabi. During his stay in the UAE, he is scheduled to meet President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as part of his broader diplomatic tour.
