TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Wisata, a subsidiary of state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), is introducing a new luxury train service, the Java Priority Train, as part of its Special Extraordinary Train (KLB) series. This exclusive train will operate on the Jakarta - Yogyakarta route during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, from December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
The Java Priority Train offers a premium travel experience, combining comfort, style, and efficiency. It features a dining car, two imperial cars, and five priority cars, with a total capacity of 190 passengers per trip. Each seat is equipped with a folding table and a power socket, ensuring a comfortable and productive journey.
“The Java Priority Train is designed for Free Independent Travelers (FIT) who can conveniently book their tickets through the Access by KAI application,” said Hendy Helmy, President Director of KAI Wisata in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
The train will operate from December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025, departing from Gambir Station at 12:45 PM and arriving in Yogyakarta at 8:25 PM. The return journey departs from Yogyakarta at 11:40 PM and arrives in Gambir at 7:10 AM.
According to Hendy, the choice of the Jakarta - Yogyakarta route is strategic, as both cities are popular tourist destinations. Throughout January - September 2024, Yogyakarta Station recorded the highest number of departing foreign tourists with 103,353 passengers, followed by Gambir Station with 82,997 passengers.
KAI Wisata has also seen significant growth in tourist train ridership, with a 73.77% increase in passenger numbers from January to October 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 with 69,845 passengers.
