TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kendrick Lamar has officially cemented his place at the very top as the most-awarded hip-hop artist the Grammys have ever seen.

At the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, the Compton-born artist made history by becoming the most-decorated hip-hop act in Recording Academy history, extending a career already defined by both critical acclaim and cultural influence to a total of 26 Grammy trophies.

Even before rewriting the record books, Lamar ranked third behind Jay-Z and Kanye West on hip-hop’s all-time Grammy list. With multiple wins heading into the night and a 2026 lead no other artist could match, his influence was already undeniable.

Leading the night with a commanding nine nominations, Lamar was recognized across major categories, including Album of the Year for GNX and both Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Luther,” his collaboration with SZA.

As the evening wore on, each announcement further solidified Lamar’s historic run. He took home Best Rap Album for GNX, Best Rap Song for “TV Off,” Melodic Rap Performance for “Luther,” and Rap Performance for his featured appearance on Clipse’s “Chains & Whips.”

Kendrick Lamar marked his Best Rap Album win with a message about hip-hop’s permanence. On Sunday, February 1, the Compton rapper took the center stage at the Grammy for GNX, using his acceptance speech to reaffirm that hip-hop will “always” have a place on the Grammy’s stage.

The night’s most-nominated artist also took a moment to salute fellow nominees Tyler, The Creator and Clipse, calling them his “brothers.”

Lamar accepted the award in a sharp black Chanel tuxedo accented by a pearl-embellished chain, diamond studs, and a matching ring.

“I’m not good at talking about myself, but I express it through the music,” Lamar told the audience at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.

Framing his win as “hip-hop as usual,” he emphasized unity, culture, and presence.

“Hip-hop is gonna always be right here. We gon’ be in these suits, we gon’ be looking good. We gon’ be having our folks with us. We gon’ be having the culture with us.”

Earlier in the day, Lamar had already collected three additional Grammy wins, making his Best Rap Album acceptance not just another trophy, but a statement.

With gratitude extended to his peers and a nod to the culture that shaped him, Lamar closed his speech on a familiar note of humility and faith: “God is the glory. Love y’all.”
