TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) can carry out the investigation process, such as confiscation, searches, summoning witnesses and even detaining suspects even though PDIP DPP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto has filed a pretrial motion. According to KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto, investigators can detain Hasto who has been named a suspect in bribery and obstruction of investigation in a case involving fugitive Harun Masiku.
"Investigation and pretrial are not directly related," he said at the KPK's Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Monday, January 13, 2025.
Tessa said the authority to detain Hasto lies with investigators and public prosecutors. "If we talk about whether it is possible or not, it is possible. Whether it is done or not is up to the investigators, including the prosecutors," he said.
The KPK reasoned that it had not yet detained Hasto Kristiyanto because investigators still needed time to collect evidence in the bribery case against former General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and the obstruction of investigation case in the case involving Harun Masiku. Tessa said investigators still needed to complete evidence from the examination of Saeful Bahri and Maria Lestari.
She said investigators still needed evidence from the statements of Saeful and Maria, including a number of witnesses who were not present at the scheduled examination.
