TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized assets worth Rp8.1 billion from Anwar Sadad in connection with a bribery case involving the management of grant funds for community groups (pokmas) from the East Java Provincial Budget for the 2021-2022 fiscal year. Anwar is a suspect in the case.

KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto confirmed that the seized assets included three land parcels with buildings in Surabaya, as well as one apartment unit in Malang. The confiscation occurred on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

"According to investigators, these assets were seized from suspect AS," Tessa confirmed to Tempo on Tuesday, January 14.

Tessa also mentioned that, after the confiscation, investigators would gather information from individuals who could shed light on the origin of the seized assets. However, she did not specify when Anwar Sadad would be questioned.

"We have not received that information from investigators," Tessa said when asked about the timing of Anwar Sadad's questioning.

Originally, the KPK had scheduled Anwar's examination for October 22, 2024. However, he was absent without providing a clear reason.

This corruption case, involving the East Java Provincial Government grant funds, originated from a sting operation on December 14, 2022, against Sahat Tua Simanjuntak, the former Deputy Speaker of the East Java DPRD.

On September 26, 2023, Sahat was sentenced by the Surabaya Corruption Court Panel to a 9-year prison term and a fine of Rp1 billion, with a 6-month prison term as an alternative to the fine. The East Java Golkar Party official was also ordered to pay restitution amounting to Rp39.5 billion for state losses.

On July 5, 2024, the KPK issued a new Investigation Order (Sprindik), naming 21 additional suspects in the case. However, the KPK has yet to disclose the identities of these suspects.

Among the 21 suspects, four are accused of receiving bribes, including Anwar Sadad, who is a state administrator. The remaining 17 suspects are individuals accused of giving bribes—15 of whom are private citizens and 2 are state administrators.

The KPK has also carried out searches at 10 locations across Surabaya, Bangkalan Regency, Pamekasan Regency, Sampang Regency, and Sumenep in connection with the case. These searches took place between September 30 and October 3.
