TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The U-23 Indonesian national team will play against India in a friendly match as part of their preparation for the 2025 SEA Games. The matches are scheduled to be held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 8:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time). The matches will be broadcast live on Indosiar and streaming on Vidio.

The friendly matches are scheduled to take place twice. The next match is on Sunday, October 13, 2025. These matches are intended to evaluate the players selected for the training camp in preparation for the SEA Games in Thailand from December 9 to 20.

"The purpose of the friendly matches is to assess the quality of these 32 players. Therefore, I would also like to inform the public that these are friendly matches aimed at finding the best format and the best 23 players for the SEA Games, as well as gradually and progressively finding the best 11 players," said the coach of the U-23 Indonesian national team, Indra Sjafri, in a press conference before the matches in Jakarta on Thursday, October 9, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

Indra emphasized that the friendly matches against India are not about proving the team's readiness, but an opportunity for evaluation. The team's performance in these matches is just the beginning, and not an indication of their readiness for the SEA Games.

According to Indra, the Indian team is the right opponent to assess the abilities of the young Garuda players. Led by Naushad Moosa, the team almost qualified for the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup, narrowly missing out on a spot as one of the top four runners-up due to goal difference with the United Arab Emirates. "India is a strong team. They almost qualified for the Asian Cup; they only lost by goal difference," said the coach from West Sumatra.

Indra, who previously successfully led the Indonesian football team to win the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, ending a 32-year title drought, was reappointed by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) to manage the U-23 Indonesian national team for the same championship this year. After being announced as the coach for the 2025 SEA Games, he immediately started preparing the team.

He called up 34 players to participate in the training camp to prepare for the 2025 SEA Games. The first training session took place at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium last Friday. The called-up players are selected from the list of 50 players from the PSSI National Team Body, which was reported to the Indonesian Olympic Committee on September 6.

Indra revealed that he is cautious in selecting players for the SEA Games. Therefore, the selection is not only based on the training camp results, but also includes player data collected, including their performance records with their clubs and DNA talent tests.
