TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as the head of the National Economic Council today, Monday, October 21, 2024. He was former President Joko Widodo’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
Prabowo inaugurated Luhut along with several other figures: ST Burhanudin as Attorney General; Herindra as Head of the State Intelligence Agency; A.M. Putranto as Head of the Presidential Staff Office; and Hasan Nasbi as Head of the President’s Communication Office.
Before inaugurating them, Prabowo asked about their willingness to be sworn into office. “Firstly, I will ask, are you willing to take the oath according to your respective religions?" inquired Prabowo.
Luhut Pandjaitan and the others readily answered with “willing” and followed Prabowo’s recital of the oath.
"By God, I swear to be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and will uphold the laws and regulations with the utmost sincerity, in dedication to my service to the nation and state. That in carrying out my duties, I will uphold the ethical values of my position and work to the best of my abilities with full responsibility," they said.
Previously, Luhut bid farewell as his term in Jokowi’s cabinet came to an end on Sunday, October 20. Through his social media, Luhut expressed his thanks and apologies to the Indonesian people.
"I learned that in every decision-making process, there are pros and cons, but I consider it as energy that adds to our enthusiasm to continue working hard and ensure that every decision made is truly for the national interest," said Luhut through his personal Instagram, @luhut.pandjaitan, on Saturday, October 19.
