TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - Floods hit Bekasi in the early hours of Tuesday, March 4, 2025. The flood was caused by overflowing water from the Bogor area via Kali Cileungsi.
According to the Bekasi City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the water level peaked at 875 centimeters—more than twice the maximum capacity of Bekasi River. which is 350 centimeters.
As a result, Bekasi River overflowed, submerging residential areas along its banks. The worst-hit locations, including Kemang IFI, Pondok Gede Permai, and Vila Nusa Indah, experienced floodwaters reaching over three meters, submerging the first-floor rooftops of houses.
The flood extended to the main roads in the city of Bekasi. Based on Tempo's observations, Jalan Ahmad Yani, the center of Bekasi, was affected. Some parts of it even reached the Mayor's office.
In addition, Jalan Raya Pekayon-Pondok Gede was also paralyzed. The water from Bekasi River crossed the road to the Grand Galaxi Park area of South Bekasi. Cars were submerged, with only the top visible above water.
Jalan Raya Pekayon was also affected. It was observed to be congested, with only one lane passable for vehicles. The same situation occurred on Jalan Juanda in front of Bekasi Station.
The flood, reaching the waist of an adult, paralyzed this road. The Bekasi River bridge connecting East Bekasi and North Bekasi, and then Jatiasih and Rawalumbu, were closed due to being submerged.
Head of the Bekasi City BPBD, Prihadi Santoso, said that the peak of the arrival of water from Bogor was at 07.00 WIB.
The water level reached 875 centimeters. There are approximately 20 points affected by the overflow of Bekasi River in the Bekasi City area.
"Due to high-intensity rain over an extended period in the upstream area, it caused an increase in water flow," said Prihadi in his statement.
A joint search and rescue team has been deployed to flood points in Bekasi. It includes personnel from the BNPB, the police, the military, as well as volunteers.
