TEMPO.CO, JakartaSecretary General of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Eko Cahyanto mentioned that Indonesia is one of the largest markets for iPhone sales, reaching 2.3 million units in 2023. When calculated, Eko continued, the profit earned by Apple Inc., an American company, is around Rp 35 trillion in 2023.

"Indonesia is one of the big markets for Apple or iPhone. Sold here (Indonesia) last year, 2.3 million units. If calculated with a price of Rp 15 million each, it is around almost Rp 34 trillion to Rp 35 trillion in 2023," said Eko when giving a public lecture at the Industrial Festival event in the Embong Kaliasin area, Surabaya, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

He mentioned investing profits in Indonesia to build factories would benefit labor. Moreover, Eko said, the current situation of the Indonesian people is that they are facing difficulties in finding employment.

"If the profit is invested in Indonesia to build factories, how many thousands of people could work, friends will not have a hard time finding jobs," he said.

Meanwhile, Eko stated that Apple Inc. has not yet built a manufacturing industry in Indonesia since its mobile phone brand was sold. He said this is one of the reasons why the iPhone 16 cannot circulate in the technology market sector in this country.

"Because they (Apple Inc.) didn't establish that manufacturing base like other brands did," said Eko.

According to him, factories must be constructed for companies originating from outside Indonesia. Eko stated that this is because the government wants real and tangible investments as capital injections in Indonesia.

He added that this must be conveyed to entrepreneurs who want to build businesses in Indonesia. "It is mandatory, and its value is very large, globally," he said.

In his presentation, Eko urged the people of Indonesia to restrain themselves if they desire an iPhone 16. He said the government is currently trying to ensure that Apple Inc. invests in Indonesia.

"So, for those who are eager for iPhone 16, hold on first, help us ensure that they invest in Indonesia, then we can buy their products," said Eko.
