TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Public Works plans to cooperate with Finland for the development of infrastructures in the New Nusantara Capital (IKN). The cooperation can be carried out through funding schemes such as loans or B2B funding.
Deputy Minister of Public Works, Diana Kusumastuti, stated that the infrastructure to be developed inclides smart water and smart transportation, irrigation and reservoirs, fire protection, drainage, as well as national roads and toll roads.
Diana explained that previously, there has been a lot of collaboration between Indonesia and Finland. In the smart construction sector, for example, there has been cooperation on smart building systems and waste management systems.
"Indonesia-Finland cooperation in the infrastructure sector began with the visit of the Finnish Minister of Economy in January 2024 at the Ministry of Public Works. The visit gave valuable insights into Finland's expertise in digitalization," said Diana when receiving a visit from the Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN, and East Timor, Pekka Kaihilahti, and the Deputy Ambassador of Finland, Teemu Laakkonen, at the Main Building of the Ministry of Public Works on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Diana added that during the 10th World Water Forum event in May 2024, the Ministry of Public Works also proposed an Indonesia-Finland collaboration in the development of smart building rating codes, training on the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of smart buildings, and preparation of technical guidelines for planning and implementation.
The collaboration is also related to water management and environmentally friendly urban settlement investment projects. The proposal was followed up through a series of discussions between the Directorate General of Cipta Karya and Finland from June to October 2024.
Diana expressed her appreciation to Finland for providing technological support for the development of IKN.
Meanwhile, Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN, and East Timor, Pekka Kaihilahti, said that the Finnish Government is pleased to be able to contribute to the construction sector in Indonesia. He also hoped that this contribution can be improved in the future.
