TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, vows to take action against the Ngada police chief, who is the alleged offender of sexual abuse and drug-related crime. Ngada Police Chief, Pol. Superintendent (AKBP) Fajar Widyadharma Lukman Sumaatmaja, is being investigated by Polri’s Police Professional and Security Division (Propam).
"Regardless of their rank, we will take action against officers who are proven to be problematic. That's the commitment of the Chief of Police," said Polri’s head of the Public Relations Division, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, on Monday, March 10, 2025.
He has yet to disclose what violations the officer committed, but Sandi said the National Police have been improving and becoming more transparent in addressing members who are involved in legal cases or breach the rules.
He emphasized that there is no longer a place to hide for problematic police officers. "There is oversight from internal, external, digital space, and even netizens. We ask everyone to oversee the National Police," he said.
Previously, the Director of Narcotics Crime at the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Department, Brigadier General Mukti Juharsa, had stated that all police officers involved in narcotics cases will be strictly dealt with. Mukti made the statement in response to allegations of drug abuse by Ngada Police Chief.
Fajar is under investigation for drug-related cases and sexual abuse against minors. Propam has yet to reveal the results of its investigation.
The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police confirmed the internal investigation by the national police. The Head of the Public Relations Division of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, Chief Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra, stated that the police’s internal security arrested the officer on February 20.
"We are awaiting the results of Polri headquarter’s investigation,” he said in a written statement on Monday. Henry emphasized that if the Ngada police chief Fajar is found guilty, then he will receive strict sanctions in accordance with police regulations.
