TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Transportation stated that the ATR 42-500 aircraft was airworthy before it lost contact and was found in Bulusaraung, South Sulawesi. Endah Purnama Sari, the Head of Public Relations and General Affairs of the Directorate General of Air Transportation, said the last inspection was carried out in September, November, and December 2025.
"The data indicates that the aircraft has undergone routine inspections and periodic airworthiness supervision in accordance with applicable regulations," she said in a written statement on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Documented evidence of the inspections includes a ramp check on November 19, 2025, at Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado, by the Airworthiness Inspector of the Airport Authority Office Region VIII Manado. Additionally, the Airworthiness Certificate Renewal Inspection was conducted on September 3, 2025. The last inspection by the operator, Indonesia Air Transport, was in accordance with the 4.5 MO Calendar Month maintenance program, with a total flight time of 24,959.62 flight hours on December 25, 2025.
The aircraft with the registration code PK-THT lost contact in the Maros Regency area while flying from Yogyakarta to Makassar on Saturday, January 17, 2026. A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team found aircraft debris in the area of Gunung Bulusaraung, located on the border of Maros Regency and Pangkajene Kepulauan Regency (Pangkep), South Sulawesi.
Endah stated that the location is approximately 26.49 kilometers from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Makassar, and close to the nearest Basarnas post. The aircraft debris was found on Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, through a combined search operation involving ground and aerial searches.
The Indonesian Air Force deployed unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) from 06:15 local time, followed by reconnaissance using Air Force helicopters. Currently, only one male body has been found.
There were a total of 10 passengers on the flight, including seven crew members and three Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries employees. "The Directorate General of Air Transportation asserts that at this stage, we are not in a position to conclude the cause of the incident," said Endah.
