TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rolliansyah Soemirat, also known as Roy Soemirat, addressed the ongoing plans for Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's visit to Indonesia. He said that Indonesia and Japan are intensively preparing for the visit.
“Currently, both countries are still continuing to explore further. If it can be done in a not-too-distant time, why not?” said Roy when met by reporters at The Acre, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, December 23, 2024.
Roy explained that the preparations cover both logistical and substantive aspects. He added that he could not yet confirm a specific timeline for the visit.
Furthermore, Roy emphasized the mutual desire of Indonesia and Japan for the visit to take place. “So that it can provide benefits that can be felt by all the people in both countries,” he said.
Roy also mentioned that a number of important state agendas are scheduled for late 2024 and early 2025. One such agenda is the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting Retreat, which will be held in Langkawi, Malaysia, in January 2025.
However, Roy noted that state visit agendas are subject to change. “We are still monitoring and waiting for further instructions,” he said.
