TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Mount Merbabu National Park Office (BTNGM) will close the hiking trails in Boyolali, Central Java, to restore the ecosystem and adjust government regulations. Mount Merbabu National Park chief Anggit Haryoso said the trails would be closed from October 31, 2024, until an unspecified date.
"Or until all supporting elements of hiking tourism are ready," as stated in Anggit's official statement, reported by Antara on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
The trails to be closed are spread over different regions, starting from the route in Genting, Tarubatang Village, Selo Subdistrict, Boyolali (Selo Route); then Thekelan in Batur Village, Getasan Subdistrict, Semarang (Thekelan Route); and Kedakan in Kenalan Village, Pakis Subdistrict, Magelang (Wekas Route).
Mount Merbabu National Park officials will also close the Cuntel Route in Kopeng Village, Getasan, Semarang; and the Suwanting Route in Banyuroto Village, Sawangan Subdistrict, Magelang. During the closure, officials have prepared maintenance programs, vegetation planting, and cleaning along the climbing routes.
This policy is implemented during the transitional period of the enforcement of Government Regulation No. 36 of 2024 on Types and Rates of Non-tax Government Revenues for the Environment and Forestry Sectors. This transitional need is stated in the official circular Number SP.03/T.35/HMS/10/2024 issued by the Mount Merbabu National Park Office on October 21.
Anggit urges hikers and residents to comply with this directive "For the sake of safety and efforts to preserve the ecosystem," he said.
Information about the closed routes can be found on the official channel, social media, or official posts of the Mount Merbabu National Park Office.
