Myanmar Earthquake: BNPB Deploys 65 Personnel, Allocates Rp10.9 Billion in Aid

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has sent humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquake in Myanmar. Abdul Muhari, the Head of Data Information and Communication Center for Disaster Management of BNPB, said 65 personnel were deployed on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

"They left at 9:00 in the morning from Baseops Halim Perdanakusuma," said Abdul Muhari when contacted by Tempo through a text message on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

In addition to personnel, BNPB also sent other aid to Myanmar. Abdul Muhari mentioned that the aid included 2 units of National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) trucks, 3 K9 dogs, 2 generator sets, 37 refugee tents, 100 BNPB uniforms, and 600 blankets.

He stated that their agency allocated Rp10.9 billion for this aid. Abdul Muhari disclosed the total weight carried by BNPB to help the earthquake victims in Myanmar, amounting to 59.4 tons using aircraft.

"The logistical aid sent includes 1300 packets of protein biscuits, 500 ready-to-eat meals, clothing, blankets, mattresses, tables, jackets, sleeping mats, tents, portable toilets, solar panel lights, and kitchen equipment," he said.

Abdul Muhari mentioned that other institutions have also sent aid to the earthquake victims in Myanmar. These agencies include the Agriculture Ministry, the Health Ministry, the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas), and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).

Abdul Muhari said that the Agriculture Ministry allocated aid funds for the logistics of Rp479 million. Meanwhile, he stated that the Health Ministry allocated Rp5.5 billion for health aid for the earthquake victims in Myanmar.

"The Agriculture Ministry provided protein milk, ready-to-eat sausages, and cooking oil totaling 18.2 tons. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry supplied medicines and equipment weighing up to 13.3 tons," said Abdul Muhari.

He mentioned that Baznas allocated Rp2.4 billion to help the earthquake victims in Myanmar. Abdul Muhari said the aid included refugee tents, generator sets, cleaning supplies, and tarpaulins.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Red Cross is also providing body bags, sarongs, blankets, and cleaning supplies. Abdul Muhari stated that PMI allocated Rp880 million with a total weight carried of 4.1 tons.

"Rumah Zakat provided canned beef, beef rendang weighing up to 5 tons with a value of Rp275 million. Artha Graha Peduli provided mineral water, blankets, towels, tarpaulins, first aid kits, LED lights, and sleeping bags weighing in at 4.5 tons with a value of Rp333 million," he said.

Previously, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the conflict-ridden country of Myanmar on Friday, March 28, 2025. According to the military junta's report on Sunday, the disaster caused approximately 1,700 fatalities, 3,400 injuries, and more than 300 people are still missing. The twin earthquakes that occurred on land not only caused devastation in Myanmar but also had an impact in Thailand.
