TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The alleged corruption case of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga with the modus operandi of mixing Pertamax (RON 92) fuel with Pertalite (RON 90) has left numerous people feeling dismayed.
Social media users flooded Pertamina's social media account after the Attorney General's Office uncovered the issue on Monday evening, February 24, 2025.
In the comment section of Pertamina's latest Instagram post, tens of thousands of netizens expressed their frustration and disappointment regarding the adulterated fuel.
Some netizens stated that they chose to purchase Pertamax fuel because they felt they were ineligible for the subsidized fuel, Pertalite.
Thus, the news of the alleged adulteration of Pertalite into Pertamax left them disappointed.
"Bro, I'm really disappointed. Went out of my way to buy Pertamax because I didn't want to use the subsidized one, turns out to be deceived," wrote @luqh*** in their comment on Pertamina's latest post on Friday, February 27, 2025.
"I use pertamax not just because I'm lazy to queue. But because I feel it's inappropriate to use the subsidized one. But why was I blatantly lied to for years like this? It's unimaginable, the sin is per liter. I don't expect anything from the law in Indonesia, oh well, we'll meet in Allah's court. I'm tired," said @yii***.
"The people are told to buy pertamax, [they] make it difficult to get pertalite, but when buying pertamax, it's filled with pertalite. This happened from 2018-2023. I bought a new motor filled with pertamax, never expected to be deceived," commented @arsh*** while tagging Pertamina's Instagram account.
Some netizens also encouraged the public to stop buying fuel from Pertamina and switch to private gas stations. "Stop buying pertamax," said @inf***. "It's better to use Shell," said @ari***. "That's why I've never trusted Pertamina's fuel, now it's proven. It's best to fill up at Shell, Vivo, or BP," said @sua***.
Moreover, several netizens demanded compensation and accountability from Pertamina regarding the alleged Pertamax adulteration. Some asked for compensation for the Pertamax fuel they had purchased over the years.
"Will you compensate us who have been using Pertamax for years," said @xst***.
Meanwhile, the account @ice*** asked Pertamina to take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle caused by the fuel used. "My motor is broken, oh Allah, because of the fuel. It's your responsibility," they wrote in the comment section. "In the name of Allah, in 2025, provide free fuel to all Indonesian citizens, amen yaa mujiibassaailin. Paying for Rp 193 T," said @din***.
The allegation of Pertamax adulteration emerged after the Attorney General's Office named four top officials of PT Pertamina as suspects in the alleged corruption case of crude oil and refinery product management.
This case, which caused state losses of up to Rp193.7 trillion, involved the blending or adulteration of Pertamax with Pertalite.
Regarding this, Vice President Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero) Fadjar Djoko Santoso claimed that the alleged corruption case that occurred in their subholding, including PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, did not harm the public.
"For the quality of fuel, we ensure that what is sold to the public matches the specifications determined by the Director General of Oil and Gas (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources or ESDM)," said Fadjar when met by journalists after a meeting with Commission II of the Regional Representative Council at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, February 25, 2025.
