TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government will welcome the 2025 New Year by preparing a number of activities, including memorials, visits to social institutions, bazaars and late-night shopping, a fortress of hope, and performances.
Head of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Andhika Permata, said that the New Year's celebration also coincides with celebrating five centuries of Jakarta.
“The philosophy behind our New Year's Eve celebration is welcoming the 5th century of Jakarta. We will hold several activities,” Andhika was quoted as saying on Friday, December 27, 2024, through the official website of the Jakarta provincial government.
These activities will commence on Tuesday morning, December 31, which will last through the evening.
The first event will be the memorials, or napak tilas, to trace Jakarta’s history through various historical sites, starting from the Jakarta Maritime Museum, Raja Kuring Restaurant, Kota Intan Bridge, Jakarta History Museum, Ceramic Museum, and Beos Station, or Jakarta Kota Station.
The fortress of hope will be conducted by installing a 500-meter-long white cloth where Jakarta residents are invited to write their aspirations on. The cloth will be put on display on June 22, 2027, when Jakarta turns 500 years old.
“That's one difference from other New Year's Eve celebrations,” said Andhika.
The MSMEs bazaar and late-night shopping, said Andhika, will be held along Jl. MH Thamrin Road to Jl. Jenderal Sudirman. The bazaar will serve a variety of culinary delights for those who enjoy and watch New Year's celebrations in Jakarta.
On New Year’s Eve, Andhika said, a total of 23 entertainment stages will be erected on several locations. Three will be held by private entities in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Ancol Dreamland, and City Vision, and 20 others provided by the Jakarta provincial government.
