TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nintendo has announced that it will release the handheld gaming device, Nintendo Switch 2, on Thursday, June 5, 2025. This device will be sold for US$449.99 in the United States.
The President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, stated that this handheld gaming device comes with a variety of new features that enhance the gaming experience.
“Nintendo Switch 2 is the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch," he said in a written statement on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
The Nintendo Switch 2 features two analog sticks and control buttons, each on the right and left, a console grip, high-speed HDMI cable, AC adapter for Nintendo Switch 2, USB-C charging cable, strap, and a dock for the device.
This handheld gaming device can communicate with other users through GameChat, and even make video calls with up to four other players with the additional Nintendo Switch 2 camera device sold separately.
"Until the end of March 2026, GameChat can be used without the need to have a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Afterwards, a Nintendo Switch Online membership will be required," as quoted from the same written statement.
Nintendo acknowledges that parents and guardians play an important role in supervising their children's online activities.
Children under the age of 16 require the consent of their parents or guardians to use GameChat with the latest version of the Nintendo Switch Parental Control App.
Excellent New Features Offered
The Nintendo Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch LCD screen that displays 1080p HD quality images. The movement of objects in the game appears smooth and displays every detail of the video game graphics.
The sound quality is more natural and clear with a more balanced range of sound. When playing in handheld or tabletop mode, players can experience deep three-dimensional sound.
The device comes with 256 GB of internal storage, which is eight times larger than the first-generation Nintendo Switch. Users can also expand the storage using a microSD Express, which offers faster read speeds compared to a standard microSD.
The Joy-Con 2 controllers are magnetically detachable, providing added convenience. When connected to a compatible television, the Nintendo Switch 2 supports 4K video output and can run games at up to 120 frames per second.
Additionally, the Nintendo Switch 2 supports both physical and digital games from the first-generation Nintendo Switch. However, some titles may not be fully compatible or supported on the new system.
