TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat revealed that the Indonesian government has not received a formal invitation to attend the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
“We are monitoring the progress because there is no official invitation thus far,” he told reporters on Monday, December 23, 2024.
According to the spokesperson, the ministry is still figuring out whether a formal invitation is commonplace for presidential inaugurations.
“We are trying to find out whether invitations are customary because certain countries do not involve other countries’ heads of state during their presidential inauguration,” he said.
Previously, based on a Reuters report, Trump invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration in early 2025.
However, it is not certain whether Trump's invitation was accepted. The Chinese Embassy in Washington has yet to comment.
Trump's team also invited leaders of other countries, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin was not included in Trump's inauguration invitation list.
