TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Governor of North Sumatra, Surya, has requested the Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation Pertamina to ensure that gas stations in North Sumatra have sufficient fuel supply, especially during the ongoing floods and landslides.
Surya expressed his concerns after coordinating with Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional North Sumatra at the Emergency Disaster Handling Post of the North Sumatra Provincial Government on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
He stated that long queues had appeared at many gas stations in Medan and its surrounding areas, worsening the conditions for the disaster-affected communities.
According to the data from the North Sumatra Department of Industry, Trade, Energy, and Mineral Resources, the daily fuel demand in the region reaches 6,000 kiloliters. 'Therefore, the North Sumatra Provincial Government has summoned Pertamina to find a solution,' Surya said.
Regional Manager Retail Sales of Pertamina North Sumatra, I Gusti Bagus Suteja, affirmed that the gasoline and LPG stock in North Sumatra is safe and sufficient. Bagus admitted that the distribution had been disrupted due to the bad weather. However, he emphasized that the distribution to gas stations has now returned to normal. 'The stock position is very safe. Consumers do not need to worry,' he stated.
Pertamina, he said, has prepared to extend the operating hours of gas stations to 24 hours to reduce queues, with priority given to Medan and its surrounding areas.
Bagus urged the public to purchase fuel according to their needs so that queues can dissipate quickly and distribution can run smoothly.
He added that the company is also coordinating with law enforcement to ensure the security of gas stations and prevent hoarding. Pertamina advises consumers not to purchase in excess as the fuel supply in Medan is still sufficient.
Pertamina also prioritizes the distribution of fuel for heavy equipment working to clear flood and landslide materials in the affected areas. 'We hope that the closed-off roads will soon reopen so that the fuel distribution can return to normal in all affected areas,' Bagus said.
